The Crime
On June 24, 2017, several bags containing human remains were discovered in a Hayward, California warehouse owned by U.S. Trading Co. DNA testing confirmed the victim as 48-year-old Piseth Chhay of San Francisco. Family members report that Chhay had left his home on May 14, 2017, to meet a family friend, Bob Tang, to help with some of his rental properties. When Chhay failed to return home, he was reported missing.
It is alleged that Bob Tang murdered and dismembered Piseth Chhay before fleeing the country. Tang had allegedly worked for several years at the same warehouse where the remains were found. NBC Bay Area reports that the company was owned by Tang’s relatives.
Tang was scheduled to meet investigators for questioning but never appeared. The next day, his vehicle was found abandoned at San Francisco International Airport, and investigators believe he fled to Cambodia.
Piseth Chhay’s Mercedes SUV was later found stripped and abandoned on Davidson Avenue in San Francisco’s Bayview neighborhood.
A felony murder warrant was issued for Tang in Alameda County, California, in November 2017. Later, on March 26, 2019, a federal warrant for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution was issued in the Northern District of California.
